Tell us a little about yourselves and what is unique about you and your relationship?

Lizzie - We met at the University of Otago and have been together since our early twenties. We love our little house by the beach, our pets and going on adventures. I am learning to love jetski fishing and Johnny is learning to love a car karaoke session. 2020 was a big year for us. I started a new job, we completed a major renovation, and got married not to mention the pandemic. We are each other's cheerleaders and best buds.

Talk us through your special day.

Wanaka is a special place for us and we really wanted to share it with our friends and whānau. Johnny picked our venue, he said there's no question about it with a view like that. I was more than happy to go along with it!

Our styling was simple and let the beauty of the venue shine. I was aiming to create a feeling of love and light. I used festoon lights above and candles on the tables alongside the beautiful dusky Wanaka evening light. It was important to us to support local as much as we could and we had some very talented friends help us make our day happen. We are so lucky.

What were some of the most memorable/unique moments from the day?

Johnny - Capri’s sprint, Seeing my beautiful bride tackle the hill towards me, the wind dropping minutes before the ceremony, the d-floor.

Lizzie - It was surreal driving to the venue in Ed, my great grandmothers VW beetle. I loved our time with Ellie behind the camera. It was a time to process the day and the ceremony, she was fun and I felt comfortable and beautiful. It was so cool and very overwhelming to see all of our friends and whānau in one place, especially grandparents. We were honoured to receive a haka, I was covered in goosebumps and there wasn't a dry eye in the room. An insanely special day.
